About rescue-US
The law perverted!
And the police powers of the state perverted along with it!
The law, I say, not only turned from its proper purpose but made to follow an entirely contrary purpose! The law become the weapon of every kind of greed! Instead of checking crime, the law itself guilty of the evils it is supposed to punish! If this is true, it is a serious fact, and moral duty requires me to call the attention of my fellow-citizens to it.
- Frederic Bastiat - "the Law"
This Website:
This site combines the former Ron Paul - Rescue-US blog, RonPaulRevolution.com and Rescue-US.org websites. Additional features will be added which integrate these three efforts and facilitate involvement of a community of liberty minded individuals.
Our Mission:
- To advocate the rescue of the American republic by leveraging the communication and collaboration power of the internet.
- To raise awareness locally and nationally of issues wich encroach on individual and economic liberty.
- To encourage freedom for all individuals and accountability for government at all levels.
In short ... we advocate free minds, free markets and limited government.
History
At the urging of a liberal activist friend, rescue-US.org was started in 2003 as a personal web "page" focused on the continuing and troubling shift from American Republic to American empire. Since I am not not a liberal and I found the conservative websites of the time largely repulsive (I had yet to find sites like Lew Rockwell and Anti-war), my friend suggested that if I didn't like his "progressive" websites then perhaps I should start my own. My thought at the time was to have like minded individuals post news and media links and write articles in an attempt to reach other concerned, or not so concerned Americans with some truth. With limited resources and given the technology at the time this was a cumbersome effort that bore little fruit. A few short years later however, with the boom in blogging and community based web content, the original idea behind rescue-US became more practical. The web has transformed from static information to a lush, interactive information experience. As I considered restarting the rescue-us.org project and overhauling the site, a new site came on-line in Phoenix where I was living. Freedom's Phoenix run by Libertarian activist Ernest Hancock was in many ways similar to the concept envisioned for Rescue-US. I became an editor at Freedoms Phoenix and the need to pursue Rescue-US diminished.
Then something happened...
In January 2007, Ron Paul decided to Run for president. With that news, I decided to dedicate my time to blogging Ron Paul news exclusively. Ron Paul for President - Rescue-US was the first exclusively Ron Paul blog on the internet. It was live before the Ron Paul Presidential Exploratory Comittee even had a website or phone number. In addition, at that time I started the very first Ron Paul meetup group at meetup.com. Ron Paul for President - Phoenix was established January 20, 2007. Blogging at rescue-us and submitting articles to my friends at Freedoms Phoenix introduced wonderful opportunities for active involvement supporting Ron Paul. Ernie Hancock came up with the "Ron Paul Revolution" slogan and a group of us in Phoenix started making signs and banners which quickly covered the Phoenix area. Just prior to this, having been fascinated with the recent purchase of Youtube by Google, I had become a bit of Youtube Junkie. I found the endless creativity and fresh ideas quite astonishing. While our group focused on spreading the Revolution in Phoenix, I envisioned it spreading much further. It was then that I made the remark that this revolution would be Youtube'd. With the release of our amateur but effective activist video "Ron Paul Revolution - Phoenix", the "revolution" theme caught on and a self propelled viral marketing campaign was born. Inundated with emails requesting banners and signs, I set up RonPaulRevolution.com to provide resources for others to make their own banners. RonPaulRevolution.com still gets significant web traffic and Ernie Hancock can still be found around the country training young up and coming Ron Paul Revolutionaries. As the Ron Paul internet phenomenon got into full swing, it seemed a new Ron Paul blog was popping up every day and seasoned blogs like Lew Rockwell were devoting half their content to Ron Paul. The goal of the original Ron Paul for President had been satisfied. That was to provide a resource to daily collect the pertinent Ron Paul news and information and make it available promptly and regularly. Today, there is no shortage of sites that provide this service and Rescue US will continue to do this to some extent as long as it is appropriate. We also link to and provide feeds from several of the wonderful blogs supporting Ron Paul and serving up the latest campaign news.
When I first heard the announcement that Ron was running for president, I told a friend it was going to be unlike anything we have ever seen. I didn't realize how much of an understatement that was however. I told by friend in January of 2007 that this campaign would be an "open source", decentralized, grassroots insurgency made possible by leveraging the collaborative power of the net. And the Ron Paul Campaign is only the beginning!
So the new rescue-US then is the natural transformation of the original rescue-US idea and the Ron Paul Revolution. While the Ron Paul Revolution is in full swing, we will dedicate a large portion of Rescue-US to all things Ron Paul.
As 2008 fades into history however, come what may, it is my hope that rescue-US will be much more than a "Ron Paul Blog". Rather it will be a community of informed citizens who know what it means to be empowered by free association, free speech and freedom of the press.
(oh yeah ... we know how to have fun too 'cuz if it ain't fun your doin' it wrong.)
